Richmond Library: Good Crafternoon! (Wednesday 17th January-Tuesday 18th December 2018)

Join us at Richmond Library for an hour and a half of crafting. It’s a great opportunity to finish a project, or start a new one, and spend some enjoyable time with other crafters.

Bring along your craft project – knitting, hand sewing, mending, crochet, drawing, scrap-booking, or whatever half-finished, almost-started project you like – and work on it with other crafters at the library.

Free, but you need to bring all your own materials and craft supplies.

Every Wednesday afternoon.

Bring your lunch, or grab something from the Library Café.

All welcome. Bookings not required.

Tasman District Libraries: HerStory - A Celebration of Local Women (Tuesday 13th March-Monday 1st October 2018)

Tasman District Libraries are bringing together materials that document and celebrate the lives of local women between 1893 and 1993.

We’re really interested to see how local women’s experiences at home and at work, in education, the arts, sports and recreation have changed over time.

If you have original photos, letters, documents or other unique items that show what life was like for women in Tasman or Nelson between 1893 and 1993, and you’re happy to let us copy and publish them on the Kete Tasman website, please let us know.

We won’t keep the original photos and other items, but will scan or photograph them and publish the copies online.

Terms and conditions apply. For further information, please contact your local Tasman District Library; http://www.tasmanlibraries.govt.nz/about-us/tasman-district-libraries-branches/

Motueka Library: 1000 Books Before School (Monday 9th April-Thursday 22nd November 2018)

Reading aloud and talking to your kids are two of the best things you can do.

1000 Books Before School encourages families to spend quality time together, promotes pre-literacy and learning by having listened to 1000 or more books before the child starts school. Any child aged from birth to starting school can participate in this self-paced programme.

1000 Books Before School is a programme designed to encourage and support families to read aloud to their children from birth with the knowledge that reading aloud to children is a vital ingredient in building a child's foundation for successful learning.

1000 Books Before School is a collaboration between Tasman District Libraries and the Motueka Family Service Centre and is supported by the Motueka community.

Richmond Library: Richmond Writing Group (Tuesday 15th May-Tuesday 18th December 2018)

The Richmond Writing Group is for adults with an interest in writing – whether you’re just thinking about starting to write something, or you’re a published author, or somewhere in between.

The Richmond Writing Group meets on the third Tuesday of every month at Richmond Library. It’s a great opportunity to meet other people with a shared interest in writing, and to put pen to paper!

Each month we have a guest speaker who will illuminate an area of the writing process. There is also always time for discussion and writing.

Bring writing materials.

Permaculture Design Retreat: Combining Outer Ecology (Permaculture) with Inner Ecology (Yoga) (Thursday 4th-Monday 22nd October 2018)

The Permaculture design concept is an abundant, integrated and practical method of developing the external ecosystem. Yoga is the inner ecology of living consciously, spiritually, and harmoniously in the world. Both concepts complement each other and blend together to develop a sustainable lifestyle within one’s inner self and the outer environment.

This course is the standard residential International Permaculture Design Certificate curriculum, taught in an integrated hands-on way, culminating in a comprehensive land-use design project. Yoga, deep relaxation and meditation sessions will be woven into the daily schedule bringing you a unique course combining inner ecology (yoga) with the outer ecology (Permaculture).

This 19 day course includes practical skill building activities, mini-design exercises, and visits to inspirational properties that demonstrate Permaculture in practice. It takes place in an intentional eco yoga community and incorporates the exploration of Deep Ecology, the connection to nature and element themed yoga practices aimed at enhancing personal sustainability that extends out into the wider community.
